Adult League/Cup Division One Double Header

Ballyboden St Endas v Thomas Davis, Wednesday 2nd August in Pairc Uí Mhúrchú.

Well it had to happen sometime and unfortunately it was last Wednesday that our Senior A ladies footballers’ unbeaten run of 13 games this season (in League & Cup) came to an end.

Our near neighbours Thomas Davis were the guilty party as they held on for a single point victory in an absorbing game in PUM.

It had started so brightly for Boden taking a three point lead early on with 2 points from converted frees by Natalia Hyland and a well worked team score from Alanna McGarry.

However credit to Davis who scored their 1st score, a point, on 20 minutes, they began to dominate the remaining 1st half scoring another 7 points to our 1. The visitors also missing a soft penalty call which Ciara McGuigan shot straight at Sarah O’Brien who parried to safety.

Half time score: Ballyboden St Endas 0.4 Thomas Davis 0.8

Ballyboden needed to up their performance in the second half and that they did for long periods without getting the rewards however.

An excellent goal from centre forward Hannah Hyland got the Ladies right back into the game and with defenders Sadie Codd and Hannah Leddy both having outstanding games it looked as if the hosts would drive on to victory.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Thomas Davis’ experience (they were county finalists last year) came to the fore, helping them get over the line in the end even though Ballyboden had enough chances themselves to come away with the spoils in the last few minutes but failed to convert the chances.

That famous quote ”You either win or you learn” immediately comes to mind, the big question is, will we?

Only time will tell!!

Final score: Ballyboden St. Endas 1.7 Thomas Davis 011

Scorers: Natalia Hyland 0.5, Hannah Hyland 1.0, Alanna McGarry and Kate Donaghy 0.1 each.
