AHL1 BBSE 1:27  Lucan Sarsfields 4:19  – Saturday 28th June, 12th Lock

BBSE senior A’s travelled to 12th Lock on Saturday to face Lucan Sarsfields in their final league game before the summer break. Réiteoir Dean Alford had barely thrown in the sliotar at 2pm when Lucan signalled intent with a dangerous goal chance, but McGarry pulled off an early save. Lucan converted the resultant 65’.

BBSE responded well, with a turnover from Davy Keogh setting up Durkin to level. Lucan’s early pressure told, though, with goals from their 14 and 13 sandwiching a BBSE point (0:3 to 2:3, 7 nóiméad). Keogh intercepted a short puck-out and split the posts, but Lucan’s 13 added another goal on 10 minutes (0:5 to 3:3).

Dooley’s interception started a fine move involving Dargan and Christy, finished by Keogh. Hammersley’s accuracy from placed balls brought it to 0:9 to 3:5. Lucan’s 14 responded from distance, but BBSE weren’t done. Keogh linked with Gleeson to score, before a brilliant team move saw Hammersley rattle the net from 20m out (1:13 to 3:10). He added a free before half-time to cut the gap to two. A strong recovery after conceding three goals in ten minutes.

BBSE opened the second half brightly. A neat flick from Durkin set Keogh up via Christie, and Lambert’s decoy run opened space for another. Lucan racked up five wides in response. Ormsby replaced Keogh (36 nóiméad) who was sidelined with a hip injury.

McGarry came to the rescue again after a Lucan breakaway, though the resulting 65′ was converted (1:17 to 3:12). BBSE trailed by just one. Substitutions followed: Delaney for Glynn, Byrne for Hammersley (42 nóiméad). Gleeson won and converted a free before Lucan struck their fourth goal, slotted low by 13 after a clever assist from 19 (1:19 to 4:14).

Byrne made an instant impact, fielding a tough ball on the wing and scoring superbly. A sweeping move saw every BBSE forward involved before O’Connor fired over from distance (1:24 to 4:17, 54 nóiméad). Lucan edged ahead with two more points.

BBSE’s final push included three close-range goal efforts—Gleeson, Byrne and Lambert all denied—before the ball was eventually tapped over (1:26 to 4:19). Ryan had the last word, splitting the posts off his left from the sideline via the upright.

Final score: BBSE 1:27 – Lucan Sarsfields 4:19.

A game of mixed emotions. Conceding four goals to a strong Lucan side could’ve made a narrow loss acceptable. But with 28 scores on the board, Boden might feel this was one that got away.
