The Easter School of Excellence took place from Tuesday, 22nd to Friday, 25th April. The theme of the School of Excellence was ‘Skill Development, Home Practice and Small-Sided Games’. Over the course of four days, boys and girls at U13 and U14 age-grades attended as follows:

  • Tuesday: U14 Girls Camogie and Ladies Football
  • Wednesday: U13 Girls Camogie and Ladies Football
  • Thursday: U13 Boys Hurling and Gaelic Football
  • Friday: U14 Boys Hurling and Gaelic Football

Each day commenced with a Nutrition Workshop delivered by Paddy Murphy, Lead Athletic Development Coach, and Aidan Garvey who worked with the players to plan the best match-day nutrition possible. He spoke about the importance of a balanced diet that features carbs, protein, fats and plenty of hydration. Aidan also explained the best type of food and time to eat it to ensure maximum performance and recovery!

After the Nutrition Workshop, players split into three groups and rotated through different activities which included small-sided football games, a wall ball session in Hurling and Camogie and also a gym-based session that focused on stretching, strength and resistance exercises.

There was great feedback from the week and we were lucky to get some great weather too!

Thank you to all the players who attended as well as the mentors and volunteers who helped to deliver a huge amount of activity across the four days.
