Senior football league v Thomas Davis, 3 September 2019 at Kiltipper Road.
Ballyboden St Endas 5 – 22
Thomas Davis 0 – 13
This was our second last league game and, other than continuing our unbeaten run, it had no real significance. Thomas Davis were also safe from relegation, so overall there was nothing at stake. However, this did not take from the game as both sides fought for every ball and gave no quarter, on this very wet Tuesday evening. The visitors wasted no time in getting into the tempo of the game and within 7 minutes had 1 – 5 on the board. Aran Waters showed the way with a point in the first minute and then Warren Egan finished to the net. Ryan Basquel had three on the board (1 free) and Darren O’Reilly fisted over from close range. Our backs were giving no leeway, but Davis’ eventually managed to score their first point with 9 minutes gone. Ryan Basquel finished to the net shortly after following good work by Warren Egan. Further points from Ryan (2), Warren (3) and Darren O’Reilly brought the visitors to 2 – 11 at half time. Davis’ managed just three more points to leave them on 0 – 4.
There was no let up in scoring on the resumption of the game with Ryan Basquel scoring three more points before being replaced. Ross McGarry, who came on at half time, also helped himself to three points. Other scorers were Alan Flood (1), Warren Egan (1), Robbie McDaid (1 – 1), Darren O’Reilly (1 – 1), Tom Hayes (1 – 0) and Luke O’Donoghue (0 – 1). The home side scored 0 – 9 in the second half but never threatened to cause an upset.
