Senior B Hurlers win in style

The Boden Senior B Hurlers led from the start in this keenly contested opening championship game in Sancta Maria. The early morning deluge had stopped just in time and near perfect conditions greeted the visitors from Naomh Barróg.

Boden set the pace from the start and in the end had too much fire power for a tough Barróg outfit.

All the forwards got on the score sheet with mid-fielder Ronan Cleary also getting in on the act with an impressive 5 points from play. The half time score of 0 11 to 0 05 was an accurate reflection of Boden’s dominance. The movement of the forwards was impressive and as a unit they were much faster than  Barróg. Goalie Connor Dooley is expected to score in most games now – he had two in the first half and one in the second for good measure.  Finnian Mc Donagh had 5 points to his credit with one of these being from a line ball.

This was a keenly fought affair. To their credit, Boden maintained discipline throughout but some of the Boden players will be sore this morning.  Mick McGarry, Eoin O’Neill were the victims of some “awkward challenges”.

Barróg tried hard to breach the Boden defence and came close on a number o f occasions but they were always chasing the game.  .

The result of this game was never in doubt as 14 points were added in the second half.  However, we never threatened to score a goal and one feels that this will need to be rectified as the year progresses .

There were some sterling displays. It was good to see Mal Travers and Jimmy Doody back in action. But, player of the game goes to Rónan Cleary for his overall contribution.
