AHL 3 – Second half blitz gives Boden the points – An Fear Mór Reports.

Our Senior Hurling B team had a hard fought but deserved win against St Kevin’s in Dolphin Park.

St Kevin’s had the benefit of playing with the benefit of a strong wind advantage in the 1st half, but thanks to resolute defending especially from our half back line of Cillian Byrne, Naoise Maguire and Karl Reddy, we managed to limit the lead of St Kevin’s to just a single point after 20 minutes of play. All team members worked hard, especially Mattie Weldon who was a driving force in midfield. However in the last few minutes of the 1st half we conceded a number of unnecessary frees, which resulted in St Kevin’s leading at half time by 0 – 8 to 0 – 4.

When the 2nd half commenced and we now had the benefit of the strong wind, we made inroads into the lead enjoyed by St Kevin’s and thanks to excellent free taking (including a 65) by Morgan Ryan, plus points from Finnian McDonagh & Shane Kennedy we scored 6 points without reply and seemed to be heading for a comfortable win. However St Kevin’s fought back with great determination and scored 3 points, the last one resulting in them taking the lead with only 8 minutes left. However our team responded to this challenge and points from Michael Bolland and Morgan Ryan from frees saw us get through to a deserved 2 point win.

Every member of our team including our substitutes fought & challenged with great courage, but special thanks must go to Keith Robinson in goal, who dealt very well with a number of high dangerous dropping balls. A great start by the B team, but in the words of a famous politician “a lot done, more to do!”
