Wednesday 13th April 2022, 7pm in Pairc Uí Mhúrchú. Our Ladies edge out Thomas Davis in this exciting and hard fought Senior A league fixture v our local rivals at Pairc Uí Mhúrchú last Wednesday evening.
With the home side missing many of their first team panel for various reasons and Davis having almost their full contingent, including All Stars Siobhan McGrath and Olwyn Carey, this game was always going to go down to the wire. Boden settled into the game the quicker of the two teams and took some nice scores including a fine goal from Katie Murphy (playing her first full game in some time at corner forward)
Julie Vaughan, just out of minor and making her Senior A debut scored 2 wonderful goals, one of where she ran from the 45 metre line straight through the heart of the visitors’ defence with nobody able to put a hand on her as she placed an unstoppable shot to the net,. Boden led at half time 3.06 to 1.08
Our first half display probably won the game for us in the end as for long periods of the second half we were under pressure defensively but great work by Hannah Murphy, Avril Flood, Jenny Walsh and attacking half back Claire Kirwan ensured that we didn’t concede another goal and were still in contention come the closing stages.
Thomas Davis equalised the game with a pointed free on 31minutes and were clearly in the ascendency, with this writer keen to take a share of the spoils at this stage but the game turned in Boden favour with a pitch long move which ended with the lively Katie McDonald stroking over a lovely point to the disappointment of the Davis’s sideline. The hosts then added another point from a free by Simmone Reilly who ended the game with a personal tally of 5 points.
Olivia Meagher is another player that should be given a special mention as her tireless work around the middle of the field, a girl who has only joined the senior panel this year, was exceptional.
