Under 17 B Hurling

BBSE 7 11   Cuala 2 10

Ballyboden U17B hurlers played the second match of their U17D Championship against Cuala B on a sunny afternoon on the Prunty pitch in Sancta Maria. After their impressive win over Na Fianna, they wanted to repeat that performance and top their group.

From the throw-in, Boden completely dominated the game, getting the first point from a 65, after some missed goal chances. This score settled the nerves and they just went and outperformed, outscored, and really played some excellent team hurling.

Darragh Kennedy and Miko Byrne linking up well, and Conor Reynolds, Ciarán Sharkey, Dylan Timbs, and Sean Langan playing as an attacking unit. They were backed up by the midfield pair of Conor Butler and Sean Luz. The half-back line of Rian Meaney, Torna Mc Gearrailt, and Rory Malone weren’t letting anybody get past them. The full-back line was the same, Sean Keogh. Jack Doran, Alex Brady, and Goalkeeper Adam O’Gorman stopped all Cuala’s attacks and sent the sliother back to the forwards for another score.

Boden had some  excellent scores from Ciarán Sharkey, Conor Reynolds, Sean Langan, Darragh Kennedy, Torna McGearrailt, Sean Luz, Conor Butler, and Dylan Timbs. Cuala only managed 5 points, with 4 of those points coming from frees.

On the resumption of the second half, Cuala tried to get back into the game, but they just couldn’t cope with Boden’s teamwork. Boden swapped their goalkeepers with Torna Mc Gearailt changing places with Adam O’Gorman, who also got himself a goal. Rian Mention, Stephen O’Connor, and Adam Edge came on as substitutes, and Boden just upped their work rate, especially Conor Butler who was now in at half-back, and  Sean Luz who seemed to be everywhere the sliothar was.

With only about 5 minutes to go in normal time, Cuala finally got a couple of scores, but it wasn’t their day with Torna McGearrailt saving a penalty.

Boden now top their group on 6 points and await a semi final against the runners up in the other group.

A big thank you to the U16 boys and their coaches because without them there wouldn’t be a U17B hurling team.
