Things are winding down on the playing front, all teams from adult down to U13 are on a break from competitive fixtures.

The Annual end of year Mini All Ireland Blitz for our U9-U13 girls will take place on Friday 20th June. Last year we had 160 girls take part, we hope for similar if not higher numbers this year. Girls who wish to take part can get the participation note from their relevant Mentor. We are extremely grateful to Rathfarnham & District Credit Union who are our generous  Sponsor of  the Mini All Ireland Blitz this year.

The under 13A’s took the road bright and early on Bank Holiday Sunday for an early morning clash with Tullaroan in Kilkenny. The early rise was worth the effort as the local club proved very stiff opposition – using a mixture of their under 12 and under 14 teams. The game was balanced and hard fought although there was no doubt the Kilkenny team’s ability to shift quick ball the length of the field was the difference that allowed them forge a narrow victory.

The tea, sambos and after match chat were as good as the hurling. Stars for both club and county the Walsh family came out in support of their team and were more than happy to chat with the girls afterwards. Grace – a member of Kilkenny’s All Ireland final team last year gave a short speech and encouraged the girls to stick with Camogie explaining that she herself never expected as a juvenile player to make the county Senior Squad, but that when it did happen it was a huge honour for her. Oldest brother Tommy spoke very highly of the Ballyboden Senior Hurlers and the respect they had earned all over the country. Upcoming star Padraig (now a member of the senior Kilkenny squad also) added his words of encouragement. It was nice for the girls to meet with such a famous family who shared their time so generously.

Clear road back to Dublin has us home shortly after 2 o’clock. The ideal Sunday morning.
