Another Sunday and the Boden Minor A boys were on tour, this time away to Erins Isle which is never easy but this time the weather made it more difficult and every ball had to be fought over with more intensity. Boden opened the early exchanges with a couple of points and were quickly matched by the northsiders as both teams got the measure of each other very quickly. Both teams exchanged rare and hard-fought points until Daniel McCarthy broke the deadlock with a looping goal that put us ahead at halftime: 1.5 to 0.4.
The second half was no easier as both teams covered every inch of ground trying to make the breakthrough and as the intensity began to rise the yellow and black cards began to appear but still no one was taking their foot off the throttle. The Boden defence fended off each Isles attack while the forward line managed to keep our noses in front, and with the introduction of Alex Young, John McSharry, Oisin Quinn, and Torna MacGearailt to seal the deal in this endless battle of speed strength and skill, we were happy when the final whistle went as the Isles were hunting in packs right to the death.
Special mention to referee John Higgins for letting the action flow while keeping control of the game in such poor conditions. Final score Boden 1.10 Erin’s Isle 0.08
