Our senior A ladies footballers returned to winning ways  on Wednesday4th May with a 6 points victory over newly promoted Castleknock at Somerton, which must have one of the biggest pitches in the whole of Dublin.
The game took a while to get going, taking 6 mins.for the first score to be registered through a fisted point from Julie Vaughan, followed soon after by a goal, blasted to the net by Simmone Reilly after excellent approach work by Vaughan.
Castleknock registered their first score,a goal, midway through the half followed by a brace of points, while the visitors had points from Reilly(2) the impressive Maria McGrath(2) Vaughan and Katie McDonald(1 pt.each)and just before the break a goal from Claire Kirwan tucked into the corner of the net from an acute angle.
Half time score:
Ballyboden 2.07  Castleknock 1.03
As with the first half the second period took a while to settle into a pattern with Castleknock showing more of their attacking game and getting the opening 2 points giving the home supporters a huge lift.
However a brace of points from the accurate McGrath settled the nerves and coupled with excellent defensive work from the likes of Niamh MacMahon,Avril Flood,Katie Quinlivan and Ciara Ruddy ’Boden held a 4/5 points gap for the remainder of the game.
There were some anxious moments before the final whistle however, with the concession of 2 more goals, but a late third goal scored by substitute Aoife Durkin, after great work from Ciara  Ruddy, ensured that ‘Boden had enough “in the bank”to see out the contest.
Final score:
Ballyboden 3.13. Castleknock 3.07
