After the traditional meet up and photo shoot at the club the girls were eager to get the féile kicked off. We departed for Thomastown at 9 am. Before proceedings began the girls took part in the pre-tournament piped parade. Amhran na bhfiann was sung and the girls were ready for the off.
We were pitted against our host Cuala in the opening game of a very tough group. The girls hit the front early on and were never headed and won the game 3-3 v 1-5.
Our second game was against Round Towers of Lusk. In a very tight affair again we prevailed on a score line of 1-2 v 0-1.
Game three of the group was against Ballyboughal. The winner of the game would be the winner of the group. Ballyboughal raced into an early 5 point advantage, but Boden responded with two quick goals and were leading when Ballyboughal goaled right on half time. HT score 2-1 v 1-5.
The second half ebbed and flowed in a real humdinger of a game. Boden lead by two points going into the last minute of play when we conceded a goal from a penalty. However the girls lifted it one more time to win the kick out and score a match clinching goal with the last kick of the game. Final Score 3-7 v 3-5.
The semi-final was at 3pm against Beann Eadair. After a change to out alternate jerseys Boden started well and lead by 3-3 v 1-1 at half time. The second half was a different matter and the lead narrowed as the game ticked on. Beann Eadair laid siege to the Boden goal. With time almost up Boden lifted the siege and scored a late goal. Final Score 4-3 v 2-4.
The Final took place in St. Peregrine and we faced a tough Erin’s Isle team. Boden started really well and lead by 1-2 v 0-0 at half time. However Erin Isle scored straight from the throw in and the game slipped away from us. Eventually falling on a score line of 1-2 v 3-1.
The girls played their hearts out and the mentors couldn’t ask any more of them. They played with passion and their parents and club should be very proud of them.
