Minor Championship gets underway
Leaving Cert is over, county commitments are over and all focus for our Minors is on the Club Championship which begins in earnest this weekend with our 3 teams in action. Liam Deanes Minor A panel face a tough opening game against Ballymun but have home advantage, Don Carolans Minor B’s travel to Fingal Ravens on Sunday but have the perfect warm up with a League Semi-final Wednesday V Thomas Ashe. Brendan Gillespies Minor C’s travel to Sean Heuston Gaels for their opener.

Weekend Round up
The Seniors recorded a morale boosting win over Crokes in Silver Park ahead of the Championship while the Inters yet again failed to get the win they so desperately needed against Olafs despite giving everything they had on the day. The Junior A had a deserved big win over Inisfails while the Junior B’s just fell short in their Championship semi-final against St.OP/ER.

Seniors 3-9 Crokes 1-13
This was the final league run out before championship for the lads. Crokes sitting 3rd in the league and assured of the playoffs provided a stern test for this developing Boden side. The game started off with the intensity of a typical Boden v Crokes match. The Boden backs marshalled by Dara Walsh in the first half repelled the Crokes attack with some tenacious defending. This lay the platform for Boden to break quickly and set up some fine scoring opportunities. There were some excellent points by Conal Keaney and Michael Dara Macaulay before Andy Kerin struck the net twice in the second quarter of the game. The first was a follow up of a rebound while the second came from a slick passing move. This probably gave Boden a slightly flattering half-time score of 2-6 to 0-6.
Crokes came out in the second half as you would expect and started to peg back the Boden lead. Points by Paul Mannion brought them back within touching distance. Boden found it difficult to retain possession up front and the tide was swinging in Crokes favour. Crokes then struck for goal with an excellent finish and this set up a grandstand finish. With the introduction of fresh legs – Ciaran Archibald, Tom Hanifin and Darren O’Reilly Boden started to regain some momentum and possession. Then with five minutes remaining Boden struck their third goal. Again it was Andy Kerin – right man in the right place – palming it to the net after Daren O’Reilly forced a brilliant save from the Crokes Keeper. Boden managed to tag on another point and hold on to a narrow lead despite Crokes tagging on two further 2 points.

Junior A’s 5-8 Inisfails 2-7
A great second half display helped Boden junior footballers take the points in Balgriffin against Innisfails.
Man of the match was Cian Bates with 2-3 from play . He was ably supported by the rest of the forwards with all 6 scoring from play. Leading 2-4 to 0-6 at half time, Boden were rocked, directly from the restart, when the home team scored a goal. Nonetheless, the lads regrouped and a free from Evan Flanagan settled them back into their rhythm. The difference between the teams was Bodens overall mobility around the field and when the midfield duo of Ciaran Dempsey and Evan Flanagan started dominating possession and the forwards moved the ball quickly, the result was never in doubt. Well done to the Boden defence on their tight marking and excellent ball distribution.

Junior B 0 -10 Oliver Plunketts E/R 2 – 7
The Junior B’ s just fell short of a championship final on Sunday after suffering a narrow loss to Oliver Plunketts at PUM. In what was a tight nervy affair throughout Boden just missed a bit of quality or injection of pace that would have got them over the line. The opening exchanges set the tone for the afternoon with space at a premium and a number of scores from placed balls including a monster effort from Tom Connors drew the sides level after fifteen minutes. Plunketts then seized the initiative and grabbed a goal after a magnificent save from Ger Flaherty was followed up with a bullet of a finish. Boden responded with Connors again replying leaving Plunketts with a two point lead at the break. The first half was notable of some excellent defensive displays given by Michael Dunne, Alex Murphy, and Ross Traynor. Boden grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck at the resumption and reeled off seven unanswered points from Emmet Carroll, Paudge Mahony, Tom Wafer, Ciaran Murphy, Tom Connors and Ronan O’Reilly which gave them a four point lead. This purple patch lulled Boden into a false sense of security and unfortunately left them crying out for the finish instead of pushing on.
Plunketts rallied and grabbed a decisive goal with ten minutes to play which drew the sides level. Boden were unable to muster a response and Plunketts pushed on by tagging on three points and despite a late goal chance for Boden that was to be the final result.
A disappointing end to a magnificent campaign which started with 42 teams and Boden can be proud of making the last four.
