Well done to Robbie McDaid and Sam Molony as the Dublin U21’s just scraped over the line to defeat Cavan in the All-Ireland Semi-final. Congrats also to the Dublin Minor footballers and our own lads Colm Basquel, Shane Clayton, Warren Egan, Barra McGarry and coach Mark Fee as they defeated Longford in the first round of the Leinster Championship.
The Minor C footballers had a very useful outing on Good Friday evening when they defeated St.Sylvesters by 7.9 to 4.8 in a very exciting challenge match, played in brilliant sunshine in Ballycullen.
Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half, Boden’s half–back line and mid-fielders provided their forwards with a plentiful supply of possession, which yielded some excellent scores. Goals from Barry O’Donnell(2), Kevin O Flaherty, Daniel Carroll and Liam Flaherty, and some well-taken points from Robert Torsney, Conor Dalton, Niall Creegan and corner-back, Niall Bobbett gave Boden a commanding half-time lead.
However, the Sylvester’s boys stormed back into the game in the second half and banged home four well-taken goals, as well as kicking some fine long-range points. Indeed, were it not for some fine saves from Stephen McGrath and sterling defensive work from Anthony Manning, James Mc Donnell, Niall Bobbett and Tommy Burke, Sylvester’s would have made further inroads into Boden’s lead. In the end, Boden weathered the storm and closed out the game with a goal from Brian Gillespie and points from Laurence Murphy and man-of-the-match, Robert Torsney.
