Senior and Intermediate Championship
The Seniors gave an impressive display in O’Toole park on Saturday against local rivals Balinteer. After a shaky start the lads pushed on in style to claim a quarter final spot against Lucan by 3-15 to 0-08. See report from GrassrootsGAA below, pic from Kevin Maguire. Attention then turned to the Inters who faced Judes on Sunday morning also in O’Toole park. While the crowd was not as full as the day before the quality of football on offer was right up there and our Inters put their League woes behind them to clinch a semi final tie against Fingallians on a score of 2-09 to 0-10. Pick of the scores was a terrific Carl Molony volleyed goal after a lung bursting run by Cormac Smyth reminiscent of ‘that’ Connolly goal. See report below by Conor Doolan and pic by Troy Gogan.
Seniors 3-15 Balinteer 0-08
Ballyboden St. Enda’s and Ballinteer St. John’s played for a quarter final place in the Dublin Senior Football Championship yesterday evening at O’Toole Park, Crumlin. It was Ballinteer that got the scoreboard ticking when Brendan Colleran kicked a free over the bar in the opening minutes of this senior football meeting. Ballinteer continued to kick over the points with Aodhán Clabby converting two minors in the ninth and tenth minutes. Fergal Duffy then pointed a free, this point, coupled with another from Colleran put Ballinteer ahead on a score-line of 0-5 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. Ballyboden got going in the third minute with a point from Dara Nelson and a minute beforehand Conal Keaney had hit the upright. Boden converted again in the seventh minute with a point from Sean Gibbons. It was Ballinteer who dominated in the opening 15 minutes; their backs were keeping the Boden forward line quiet and their forwards were working away on the scoreboard. However, Ballinteer would not score again until the 29th minute. It was in this time period that Boden struck and scored 1-6. In the space of four minutes Boden put 1-4 past the Ballinteer side. Andrew Kerin kicked two points, Bob Dwan notched over another and Ryan Basquel also scored. In the 20th minute Boden hit the back of the net after Michael Daragh Macauley took off on a solo run straight through the Ballinteer defence. He then offloaded the ball to Kerin who hand-passed it to Keaney to capitalise. Boden scored three more points after this with Basquel scoring a cracking effort just before the break. The sides went in at half time with the scoreboard reading 1-9 to 0-6 in favour of Ballyboden; a goal and a turnaround in 15 minutes making all the difference.
Play resumed when Boden went through the Ballinteer defence; Dwan was through on goal but hit the post. The ball was landed into the box two minutes later again by Boden but goalkeeper Colm O’Donnell kept the ball out. Ballinteer kicked a point in the 37th minute off the boot of Colleran, however, this was to be their last score before a final point in the 61st minute. Boden capitalised on two goal scoring opportunities in the 38th and 42nd minutes. The ball was pumped into the forward line where Kerin and Basquel, along with the keeper O’Donnell, ended up in the goal to give Boden their second goal. Four minutes later Darren O’ Reilly sent in a long ball which was caught by Keaney who then sent the ball to Basquel and the lethal forward put it past the keeper. Boden were motoring well now and after the 45th minute were 3-10 to 0-7 points to the good. To add to Ballinteer’s woes corner forward Paul Cronin left referee Barry Tiernan little option but to send him off for an off the ball incident. Boden capitalised on the extra player and continued to slot over the points for the final 15 minutes. They put over six more minors through Dwan, Kerin, Sam Molony, Keaney and GrassRootsGAA Star Man Alan Flood to secure the win. Ballinteer kicked over one more point in injury time from substitute L Naughton bringing their tally for the night to eight points. Ballinteer had several chances in the early part of the second half to capitalise on scores; however, several balls dropped short and were cleared by the Boden keeper.
At full time at O’Toole Park it was Ballyboden St. Enda’s 3-15 Ballinteer St. John’s 0-8.
Boden now advance to the quarter-final stages of the Dublin SFC where they will meet Lucan Sarsfields.
Star Man: Alan Flood (Ballyboden St. Enda’s)
While Andrew Kerin scored 0-4 and Ryan Basquel 2-02, it was Flood who stood out this evening. Flood was introduced in the second half for Ballyboden and he had an immediate effect. He gathered ball and created chances for Boden. He offloaded the ball well and was quick on his feet. He also converted a point before full time and caused problems for Ballinteer.

Inters 2-09 St.Judes 0-10
The Intermediate Footballers won a hard fought quarter-final in O’Toole Park this morning. Two goals from Carl Molony was the difference between the teams but it was great team moves that led to both goals. Judes opened the scoring in the first minute but Carl Molony was close with a fisted effort that went narrowly wide. Collie O’Neill opened the scoring for Boden with a well taken point before Dara Kilduff put Boden in front after 7 minutes. Judes replied with 2 points before James O’ Hara levelled matters. A Judes point edged them in front after 12 minutes
Judes then came looking for goals and but for a great save from Darragh Grogan they could have taken a 4 point lead after 13 minutes. A pointed free a minute later put them 0-5 to 0-3 in front. Judes again came close after 15 minutes when the ball went narrowly wide on the left side. Boden responded well to this threat with points from Scott Cullen and the tireless Dara Kilduff before the evergreen Cormac Smith went on a run on the right wing, getting past 2 Judes players before heading in along the end line. A fisted pass found Carl Molony who fisted to the net. Boden 1-5 to 0-5 up. Judes reduced the margin to 2 points with a pointed free, before Seamus Keane opened his account with a pointed free after 26 minutes. It looked like Boden would head to the break with a 3 point lead but 2 late Judes points reduced the margin to the minimum at half time 1-6 to 0-8.
Judes began the second half with intent but could not get the scores they needed. Four wides in the first 5 minutes deflated them before Carl Molony pointed from a free. James Madden scored a great point from the left wing to stretch lead out to 3 points after 7 minutes. Judes only reply to this was a pointed free after 13 minutes. Then came the score of the game when Smithy went on another meandering run on the left, showing a turn of pace which surprised even himself and cut in on the 14 to pass to Kilduff who passed to Molony to volley the ball into the right corner of the net. Boden then worked tirelessly to hold their lead with Mark Fitzgerald, Dan Buckingham and James O’Hara thwarting the Judes attack, ably assisted by Ian Clarke, Dermot Manley and Fergal Haran. Both teams traded points in what seemed like an eternity before the referee called time after 4 minutes of injury time.
