Football round up 10/03/13

Unfortunately the weather played a major part in this weekends fixtures. The Inters, Junior A and Junior B games were called off and will have to be re-scheduled. However despite the lack of activity, the games that were played you couldn’t ask for any more effort from the players. First up were the Junior C on Saturday afternoon at home to Ballyfermot. The lads had a great win against stiff opposition. Some excellent finishing gave them a win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-6.

Today we saw a see-saw Senior battle with Crokes in Bray. Weather conditions forced the game to be moved out of Silverpark and despite the cold conditions both teams put on an excellent display. Boden got off to a good start and when they goaled early on, the omens looked good. However, a dangerously high challenge on one of the Boden forwards resulted in a serious injury. In addition, a double yellow card on one of the Boden backs turned the tide in favour of Crokes.  However, Boden never lay down and five unanswered points in the second half brought the sides level and set up an enthralling finish. First Crokes edged in front, then Boden and just as the final whistle went, Crokes equalised. The final score was 1-11 each. Both sides will be well pleased with the run out despite several absentees. The work rate and commitment displayed will certainly challenge the missing panellists to break back into the team. We wish Darren a speedy recovery after his heroic effort today. Well done everyone. You showed great pride in the Jersey.

Congrats to our Dublin Senior Football representatives versus Kildare today – Declan O’Mahony and Michael Darragh Macauley. It was another good win for the Dubs. We also hope to see Darragh Nelson back in action for their next outing.

Two additional items – Firstly, annual membership is now due. You can give the monies to your mentors, pay on-line or alternatively drop the membership envelopes behind the Bar. The closing date is 31st March 2013. Remember no pay no play.

Secondly, the annual Gala night is on the 22nd March where the Junior B’s will be formally presented with their c/ship & cup medals along with our other club c/ship and league winners in hurling and camogie – see website for details. Order tickets through myself (Ger Flaherty), team management or anyone on the Football Committee. It promises to be a great night and good value at €25 per head.

Finally to all the Boden Mothers, Happy Mothers Day.
