Football round up 03/03/13

It was a mixed weekend for football. The Cup competitions were in full swing this weekend. The Seniors lost away to Thomas Davis by 1-13 to 0-12. A penalty save by the Davis keeper mid-way through the second half was probably the turning point with Davis securing a goal not long after the save.

The Inters came up short away to Clontarf in another close affair 1-9 to 0-8. A number of missed frees came back to haunt the team in the end.

Junior B’s won 1-14 to 1-8 home versus Round Towers and are keeping their good run going. Finally, the Junior C’s lost out to a very strong St. Kevin’s/Killian’s side and could have done with a few of the goals they scored in the previous outing – there is always next week.

They say ‘2 out of 3 ain’t bad’ and that’s how the Minor teams faired out. It was Minor league this weekend. The Minor A’s ran out convincing winners away to Clontarf 3-15 to 1-3. Some excellent score taking and a good all-round display from everyone. The Minor B’s held off a gallant St. Josephs side 1-12 to 2-7 in Pairc Ui Mhurchu to get their first points of the season. Unfortunately the Minor C’s came up short on a scoreline 0-11 to 2-9 against Lucan. Well done everyone and keep up the good work.

On Saturday, the Junior A’s hosted Ballycastle in a challenge match at home – the Ballycastle lads coming up for the Mayo game in Croke Park. Ballycastle edged out the lads by a couple of points and it was great to see Mick Gardiner back in action in the Club at the tender age of ………26 and we didn’t have to use the defibrillator!! Hope you made it back to Offaly safely Mick.

Congrats to our Dublin Senior Football representatives versus Mayo – Daragh Nelson and Declan O’Mahony. It was a good win for the Dubs. We hope to see Michael Daragh back in action with them against Kildare.

Congrats also to the Dublin Minor’s on winning the Leinster League and in particular to our own representatives Tom Hannifin, Sam Molony, Colly Basquel, Shane Clayton, Daragh Gogan and Mentor Mark Fee. Let’s hope there is another medal there for you in September.

Don’t forget your tickets for the Gala night. See website for details. Order through myself (Ger Flaherty) or anyone on the Football Committee. It promises to be a great night and good value at €25 per head.
