Hurling News
The past week was a busy one for the Adult hurling section with all seven teams in action.
The Senior A team had a good win over Naomh Fionnbarra in the 1st game of the Championship on a score line of 3 20 to 0 09. Next up is a trip to Parnell Park for a game V St. Vincent’s on 16th May.
The Senior B team got back on track with a fine win over St. Olaf’s in Páirc Uí Bhriain. The score was 0 20 to 2 09
Jun A Championship
Our match was played in Tymon Park on our favourite pitch. You know the one. Pitch no 4 . The dip is on the clubhouse side and the hill is away towards the sun.
Mattie O Sullivan won the toss and elected to play with the hill so we knew a good score would have to be built up. The first score came from that man Collie Durkin following a fine pass from Chris Lambert. Declan Keating followed up with another point following trojan work from Niall Keegan. In fact Durkin, Keating and Keegan were to dominate scoring with 6 points before Aidan Dundon scored 3 points on the trot two from frees. Durkin goaled just before half time to put 7 points between ourselves and Judes.
Boden started the second half with a goal from Dundon following a ball from Chris Nagle that found Durkin who gave the perfect pass. Along range point from Mattie O’ Sullivan put doubts in the Judes team. Boden came under savage pressure but stood firm with Mick Keville Conor McHugh and Tomas Cronin repelling back each attack. Darren Lennox put in 60 minutes of sheer graft along with Chris Nagle who used all his experience to clear ball after ball. Boden finished with 8 players on the scoresheet and 7 points to spare. Final Score 3 13 to 1 12.
27 players looked to play but only 20 got on the pitch. There is serious competition in the panel. We look forward to our next championship game on Saturday 18 May.
PS
Mick will you bring a towel next time??
Junior C Championship
Ballyboden travelled to Parnell’s knowing a win would put one foot in the quarter finals. A brace of first half goals from Tom Sweeney followed by another by Brian Cummin’s put us well on our way to a good half time lead 3-5 to 5 pts. After a slow start to the second half Parnell’s reduced the deficit to 7 pts that was as close as they came as Ballyboden kicked on again with Jason Long, David Keville and Neal Farrell to the fore. Brian O Connor added another goal and a late cameo by Danny Scully of 1-1 sealed a good win. We play Kilmacud at home on the 19th May knowing a win will see us through to the Quarter finals. Well done to all on a good team performance. FT Ballyboden 5 – 11 Parnell’s 0-9
Minor Results
It was a bad weekend, results wise, for our three minor hurling teams with all three teams beaten.
Minor A beaten by St. Vincent’s 0 11 to 1 13
Minor B beaten by St. Maur’s 1 10 to 1 12
Minor C beaten by Na Fianna 4 14 to 4 07
Minor C Match Report
Na Fianna started quickly and scored 1-2 before Sean McDonnell scored Boden’s first point. Robert McNamee followed up with a goal and a point to level the scores. Boden were playing with a slight breeze and traded points with na Fianna keeping the scores level. Stevie Mahon at half forward , Troy Wardick and Mark McGee at midfield were working hard to keep Boden in the match. Na Fianna went ahead with a couple of good points. A great period of play from Brian O’ Shea saw him score 1-2 and Boden taking the lead. Na Fianna responded with points and the half ended with Boden holding a one point lead.
Boden started the second half strongly and missed a few scoring chances. Na Fianna then scored three goals and a couple of points to take a big lead. Sean Durkin in goal made a few fine saves to keep Boden in the match. Niall Creegan, Conor Kennedy and Peadar Mac Mathuna supporting each other ensured no further goals were conceded. Boden responded with a goal from Sean McDonnell and David O’Connell. With the advantage of the breeze Na Fianna were scoring some long distance points. Not to be outdone Seamus Donoghue responded with a very good point from a free.
Final score for a very good match was Na Fianna 4-14, Boden 4-7
