Erin’s Isle 2-13
Here we go again, another thrill-seeking ride from the Boden AFL3 team. The visitors on this occasion were the lads from Erin’s Isle in Finglas. Páirc Uí Mhurchú was looking resplendent.
Boden started brightly and we’re quickly on the scoreboard from the boot of Luke Byrne. This was a taste of things to come, Boden held the upper hand for much of the first half and went in at the break six points to the good, 0-12 to 0-6. Prominent contributions came from the unlikely quarters manned by Fionn Keating and David Gannon.
This turned out to be a game of two halves despite the absence of wind. Boden went from being a dominant powerful team to being a team. Some things worked and some things didn’t.
The second half saw the introduction of Bagsie, Mark, Harry, Ronan and Ciaran; while it injected life into a team operating with one hand tied behind its back. Waves of Erin’s Isle attacks lashed the Boden defence. Some perished on those defensive rocky shores while the odd one rumbled through towards goal. Thank God we have Josh Kane, our saviour.
Unfortunately, the lead was dwindling, our forays to the distant attacking shores were not as productive as the first half. The radar went on the blink. The visitors were now getting the rub of the green; penalty, soft one, back of the net, there goes the lead.
In the perilous high seas of the final moments of the game, was the Boden skiff going to flounder? Not a chance! This team, in the face of a tsunami of Isle’s attacks, clung to the flotsam and jetsam of pride and grit.
In the end, a draw was the fairest of results.
