Tom Hanifin claims the ball for Boden in this pic by Sean Gilheaney, see more great pics from Sean here
The Inters left it late…very late to get past St.Margarets in the opening round of the IFC in Newcastle last night on a score of 0-18 to 1-08 AET.
This match had it all for a championship match – scores, challenges and drama. The venue couldn’t have been better on a magnificent surface out in St. Finnians Newcastle. Boden & Margarets swapped points early on until Margarets started to get primary possession around the middle section of the pitch. Margarets opted for the direct route while Boden moved it through he hands. Margarets went 1-05 to 0-03 up and it looked ominous for the Boden lads. However they stepped up to the plate scoring 4 unanswered points just before half time. The second half followed the same pattern as the first except there were fewer scores. Boden probably felt they should have put this St.Margarets team away. However they dug in and try as we might to get that elusive additional score, we didn’t… and so extra time beckoned. But with the introduction of fresh legs, Boden pulled away outscoring their opponents 7pts to zero and by so doing progress to the next round against St. Finnians of Swords.
All players stood up to the test especially the defence. Well done everyone.
We wish Dara Gogan well who picked up a knock to the ankle.
