BBSE 3 21 Ballinteer St. John’s 1 07

For various reasons (mostly age related) the Junior A team that ran onto the field last Saturday night in Sancta Maria was showing a lot of changes from the 2020 edition. A good sprinkling of late teenagers, early and middle 20’s and a few diehard 30 year old’s

It was glorious evening for a match and Boden got off to a lively start with Ben Kelly going close for an early goal – but no joy. Darragh Kenny hit over long free before Ben Kelly went on another run – hand passed across to Darragh who hit the back of the net. Luke Mulligan Lynch hit over a lovely point from right half back and added another a short time later. Boden were playing well and Darragh hit over another few frees. Not to be outdone the left half back Enda Cashman got in on the action and hit over another long range point. Boden we well on top with BSJ committing a lot of fouls and Darragh duly putting them over the bar. 1st water break 1 – 8 / 0 – 1.

A strong run by Eoin Behan and a pacey one by Ben Kelly drew more frees and Darragh obliged. James Enright struck over a fine point. A few balls went into our full back line but were well dealt with by the 2 dancing thirty year old’s Des O’Sullivan and Darren Lennox. Their comrade in the other corner Ruairi Kirwan was having a great game especially bringing the ball out of defence and laying off to a better positioned player. Sean O’Donnell playing well at 6 gave a good pass to Neal Farrell who hit a fine point. 2nd break 1 – 16 / 0 – 2.

Eoin Behan who work hard all night hit over a good point. Des O’Sullivan gave a great pass out of defence straight to Darragh who put it between the posts. Ben Kelly on another run was fouled in the square and Darragh buried the penalty. BSJ went back down the field and scored a goal of their own. Daire Sweeney who put in a good shift without getting the rewards on the scoreboard hit over a point. Boden started freewheeling a bit and BSJ won the 3rd qtr 1 – 4 / 1 – 3.

Boden made a few changes introducing Cian Corcoran and Daniel O’Riordan. Cian made an instant impact – using his fine frame to shield an incoming ball – turned for goal – pass to Darragh = goal. Daniel had a run on goal but the ball went wide.  Final score 3 -21 / 1 – 07.
