Result: 3-17 to 0-14
In good conditions in Finglas, our Junior A footballers got off to a winning start by beating Erins Isle 0-14 to 3-17.
Even though playing against a slight wind, Erins Isle hit the ground running scoring 3 unanswered points. Our lads however settled into the game and were back on terms after 10 minutes. The game ebbed and flowed for most of the first half with chances being taken by the forwards on both teams with Eamon O Reilly, Damien Kenny and Luke O Donoghue in good form for Ballyboden. The crucial score of the first half was a well worked goal finished off by Eamon O Reilly. 0-7 to 1-10 at half time.
In the second half, Erins Isle brought on some of their more experienced players but stout defence combined with some excellent midfield dominance gave Ballyboden the edge and goals from Ross McGrath and Ciaran O Brien put clear daylight between the teams. Sean Mulligan and Fionn Maguire (captain) finished off the scoring with well taken points. With plenty of challenges ahead in this league, this was the start the squad deserved. Since early January they have played 7 competitive matches and completed 6 weeks of strength and conditioning work.
