Junior B Advance in Championship   G.P Morans 2-16 Junior B 4-16

The Junior B’s advanced to the next round of the championship after a thrilling victory over Geraldine Morans at Cornelscourt on Sunday. In a game that was somewhat of a grudge match due to the rather chequered history between the two sides this was always going to be a tight nervy affair. Playing on a narrow pitch that the home side were completely accustomed to would be a challenge for Boden but they raced into an early lead thanks to points from Ronan O’Reilly, Paudge O’Mahony and Kieran Murphy. Morans responded with a couple of scores but Boden seized the initiative when a long delivery into Tom Connors was superbly dispatched into the net giving the away side a four point lead. Morans subsequently created a goal of their own before each side swapped scores leaving Boden up by two at half time. The second half opened with Morans pulling the deficit back but Gareth O’Keeffe, Michael Dunne and Ross Traynor constantly broke up attacks setting up a platform for the half back line of Stephen Coughlan, Jay Long, and Dean O’Donnell to attack deep into Morans territory. With five minutes remaining and Boden down by one Tom Connors floated a beautiful ball across the square for minor goal machine Adam Carney to fist home. Bedlam ensued! However Morans were not done and despite a couple of attacks been repelled heroically by James McTiernan with under a minute to go Morans grabbed a late goal that looked like they had won it. Boden however displayed enormous resolve epitomised by the composure shown on Ger Flaherty’s kick out where with time ultimately up after some good work by Tom Weaver and Brian Kirwan Tom Connors found the posts that sent the game into extra time. Appealing for composure at the break Boden raced into the lead at the start of extra time after Oisin Cannon knifed through the Morans defence and brilliantly dispatched a goal but Morans would not go away and Boden lead by one at the break. In the second half of extra time Boden raised the ante again and a brilliantly worked move featuring Niall O’Connor and Adam Carney fashioned a chance for the evergreen Mick O’Dwyer who calmly slotted home into the bottom corner. With Morans resistance finally broken Boden smelt blood and further points from Adam Carney, Ronan O’Reilly, and Tom Connors settled it. A huge victory and serious marker laid down by this team. Result was a panel effort including all of the subs who didn’t get a run and also notable mention to Keith O’Donnell who stepped in to “assist” the Morans manager on running the sideline to keep all decisions fair…
