Junior C Championship Group 1

Ballyboden St Enda’s 2-14     Trinity Gaels 1-8

Ballyboden made certain of a quarter final spot in the Junior C championship with an impressive win at Drumnigh Road last Sunday.  It was only in the second half that the visitors drove home their superiority as the hosts began to run out of energy after a determined first half which was characterised by the closeness of the score throughout the opening 30 minutes.  The sides were level at the first water break at 0-4 each and this continued right to half time as both teams retired with a score line of 7 points each.  Throughout the half there was no more than 2 points between the teams and the wide count was similar as both sides struggled to cope with a stiff cross field breeze

The breakthrough score came from the travelling side in the 5th minute of the second half when Ciarán Twomey’s shot deceived the goalkeeper and ended up in the net.  A succession of fine frees from Gareth Crowley finally put Boden in the ascendancy.  With 10 minutes to go Adam Fischer goaled after a fine run from the aforementioned Crowley.  This stretched the lead out to 10 points.  Trinity had a dubious goal of their own almost immediately but Boden negated this reverse with 3 quick points in succession to close out the match.  Up next, it’s a final group match at home to Erin’s Isle in 2 weeks’ time.

Team:  Marc Mac Liam, Conor Barton, Murray Breen, Kevin Brady, Alan McGovern, Rian Cannon, John Murray, Seán Lambert, Gareth Crowley 0-8 (4 frees), Dave Keville 0-1, Ciarán Twomey 1-1, Eoghan Duignan 0-1, Adam Fischer 1-0, Aidan Dundon, Brian Cummins 0-2.  Sub Jonathan O’ Donoghue 0-1.
