U/10 Ladies get some top class coaching (for a change!)

Thanks to coach Tony Morley the u/10’s secured a training session with Dublin Senior Ladies full back Sorcha Furlong (sister of Nuala Morley of Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna and aunt of u/10 player Abbie). Sorcha a member of the St Brigids club won an all Ireland with Dublin in 2010 so the interest from the 57 girls in attendance was fantastic. It just reminded us all of the aspirations of these young girls and wherever they may go in their football journey they all wanted to be close to a top class player.

Sorcha kindly took one of the drills so that all the girls got to spend quality time with her in small groups. She definitely imparted some excellent tips. A new and fresh voice makes all the difference!

Sorcha also reminded the girls of the importance of listening to their coaches, recognising what skills they need to work on and most importantly being able to kick and handpass off both sides. This definitely resonated with the girls and the permanent (boring!) coaches can now hopefully build on that in future sessions.

Many thanks to Sorcha for taking time out of her busy schedule to spend such quality time with the girls including the obligatory autograph and photo opportunities!

U14 Girls enjoy trip to Dublin Zoo

A great day was had by the U14 Girls C Football team trip to Dublin Zoo on Saturday. The sun shone brightly as the girls and parents left the club at 11am. Upon arrival at Dublin Zoo the girls were welcomed at Dublin Zoo by Eddie O’Brien (Jessica O’Brien’s Dad).

First up the girls headed around the Zoo and thankfully Eddie advised the animals in advance that a tribe from Ballyboden were on the loose so they wouldn’t be too frightened!

The girls then got the opportunity to see the Sea Lion show where the Seals did some amazing tricks all compeered beautifully by the one and only Eddie.

After lunch the girls headed back to the specially arranged room were Stephen had prepared a quiz with the girls split into teams of three. Highlight of the quiz was the ‘baby picture’ round where the girls had to ‘name the baby’. The funniest part of the picture round was Stephen’s picture (where did you get those shorts?!) and the picture of Colm straight from a 1980’s Fashion catalogue.

As the sun set the girls headed home having had a fantastic day thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Thanks to Colm and Stephen for arranging a great day and special thanks to Eddie for facilitating the girls and showing fantastic hospitality on the day.  ( Report by Vinnie Keogh) Photos attached
