The Underdogs series drew to a close last Saturday, December 11th, when the final team took on the top Ladies Gaelic football team in the country (the ultimate underdogs), this year’s TG4 All-Ireland Senior Champions, Meath. The match was played at the Donaghmore-Ashbourne Gaa club in County Meath at 1.30pm with a deferred broadcast to air on TG4’s Peil na mBan Beo at 7.15 pm that evening.

While the game did not go The Underdogs way, there were great celebrations after the match for Ballyboden’s Laura Basquel when she was named Réalta na Sraithe, Player of the series! Congratulations to Laura. Well deserved.

Laura has been a great ambassador for our club throughout the 6 week series and is a super role model for our younger club members. To catch a clip of Laura’s post match interview, see here

Dublin is well represented on the Underdogs panel with ten players from eight clubs featuring on the 2021 squad.  Our own Laura Basquel will be among them. Congratulations and well done to Laura on making it all the way to the final panel.
Tune into the Underdogs tomorrow evening, Thursday, December 9th at 9.30 pm for the build-up to the big match and a special treat is in store for the club. As part of the pre match preparations, The Underdogs visited Ballyboden St Endas earlier where they faced our Senior A Ladies for a game on Pairc Uí Mhúrchú.
The Underdogs is a unique group of players from different LGFA clubs all across the country. These footballers have never played at junior, intermediate or senior inter-county championship level before. Over the last few weeks, we have seen the players’ trials and training and listened to them tell their own stories.

Now, after six months of preparation and intense training, they are ready to take on TG4 All-Ireland Senior Champions, Meath. This eagerly-anticipated fixture will throw-in at 1.30 pm with a deferred broadcast to air on TG4’s Peil na mBan Beo at 7.15 p.m. that evening. It promises to be a wonderful game of football. The very best of luck to both teams

Tickets to attend the Underdogs v Meath game on Saturday, December 11th are on sale now and can be purchased at www.TG4.ie/underdogs.

It was great to see Laura featured in Episode 4. The footage aired included clips from Ballyboden St Endas, Laura’s workplace Tallaght University Hospital and interviews with Laura’s family.
