The annual Married Vs Singles football game took place on St Stephens at Páirc Uí Mhurchú with 24 players braving the elements.

The game was played in a friendly manner until the single lads found themselves in a right ding battle dong and only then did the encounter spark in to life.

There was a few notable performances on both sides, but it was obvious who were the lads who had digested the most Turkey. To say that there is a few pounds to be shed is an understatement for the new season ahead. Playing in to a stiff breeze in both halves, (no the wind didnt change direction) the single lads had to work hard to get the ball in to their opponents half. One good thump of Ger Flahertys right boot however undone a lot of good approach play and the leather was swiftly dispatched to the far end of the park.

Mick McDonald looked well and it was obvious that he had saved himself for this one. Boyo did his best to stem the flow and he had great help in Ian Clarke, the “Fox” himself Andrew Kerin, who  was in flying form and Kiely who minded the nets.

For the singles lads, Niall Brennan from Bacelona Gales (home for the holidays looking very tanned and fit) and Mark Magahran swapping sides for a change (trying to recapture his youth playing for the single lads). Mark Fitzgerald looked good alongside David Ryan.

Everybody enjoyed the outing and a fitting way to end the year or start the new one depending on your point of view.

It has been good fun reporting on games for 2011. We have a great club and a wonderful bunch of people both playing and looking after teams with very sound lads in the background doing trojan work that goes unnoticed.

Thank you all for a wonderfull year and I am really looking forward to 2012.
