The Ballyboden Senior Ladies delivered an outstanding second half performance to secure a 2-10 to 1-10 win over favourites Kilmacud Crokes Friday evening at Páirc de Burca, Glenalbyn in the New Ireland Assurance Senior Championship.
The game started tensely with the teams trading points. Kilmacud gained strength as the first half went on, finding a goal and putting themselves 4 points up with ten minutes to the break. An important goal from Simmone Reilly, whose free-taking was exemplary throughout, brought the game closer and the half time score was 1-6 to 1-4 in favour of the impressive Stillorgan team.
The Ballyboden girls came out of the blocks quickly in the second half, taking only a couple of minutes to draw level. They pushed into another gear, getting though a mountain of work all over the pitch and delivering crucial penetration from defence when needed. Kilmacud Crokes continued to impress however, and it was all square when Ciara Ruddy burst through from wing back, hitting the back of the net to put Ballyboden three up with seven minutes to go. They showed great control to preserve the gap between the teams to the end.
The win leaves Ballyboden top of the group after two rounds. The next Championship fixture will be away to Fingallians on June 29th.
The Ladies’ next match is Monday 30thMay, at home to Na Fianna in the Division 1 League.
