Result: 0-17 to 3-12

The 2019 Minor Football Division 1 League campaign began with a hard fought and deserved win at Broomfield on Sunday morning. A superb start by Ballyboden laid the foundation for this win with early goals by Pearce Christie and Ryan O’Dwyer followed by well taken points by Enda Cashman, Malachy Codd and Adam Kelleher. The Boden defence was giving very little room to the Sylvesters attack with Jack Lambert, Patrick Dunleavy and Harry Donaghy leading by example. Sean Guiden opened the scoring for Sylvesters with some accurate free taking. Robert Cullen and Conor Lowe at midfield were supplying the Boden forwards with a good supply with excellent points scored by Ryan O’Dwyer and Luke Byrne to leave the half time score 2.9 to 0.5 in favour of the visitors.

Sylvesters now had the wind advantage for the second half but Boden began with a point by Malachy Codd directly from the throw in following good work by Robert Cullen. The home side then began to apply more pressure but great defending limited the scoring to pointed frees from Sean Guiden. Joey Donohue, Sean O’Donnell and Conor Hanrahan continued to work very hard in defence. A great team move from Boden resulted in a great finish from Adam Kelleher for the third goal which was followed by well taken points by Ryan O’Dwyer and Luke Byrne. Eoghan Gannon and Conor Cullen worked very hard following their introduction as the home team continued to apply pressure but Jake Turley in goal was equal to any efforts coming his way.

The final whistle sounded with Boden ahead 3.12 to 0.17. A good start to the league and we look forward to the next match at home against Skerries on March 10th. Thanks to the parents and Boden supporters who gave great encouragement to the team throughout the match.
