Result: 2-16 to 1-04

Minor Football Championship D Sancta Maria 9/9/18

The first good thing Captain Dare Lynch did yesterday was to win the toss.  The decision had been made to play against the wind in what was expected to be a tight affair against cross city foes- St Vincents. It wasn’t to be the Captains or any other players last good thing to  do however, as took to the field against the wind to put n an exceptional first half performance. A gratuitous goal for Vincents just before half time put a gloss on the score line at the break of 0-8 to 1-3.

‘Boden began the second half as they did the first and two great goals put the game to bed. A surging run from midfield from Robert Cullen saw him blast the ball to the net in a real ‘one for the scrape book’ three pointer. This was quickly followed by a gem of a goal from full forward Kevin Kirwan. After hugging the end line he smashed the ball to the roof of the net after being helped by some unselfish decoy running from Brendan Kavanagh, which drew a few defenders away. It was then just a matter of shoring up Vincents and taking any opportunities when they came. The shoring up was done with aplomb with the Marino men only registering a single point in the second half.

A great start to the Championship campaign but still plenty more to be done. Keep it going lads.
