BBSE Minor B 4-16 – Thomas Ashe 1-12
Ballyboden St. Enda’s Minor B team had a fine victory over a determined Thomas Ashe team on the Prunty pitch on Wednesday. It was the league semi-final and it was played in perfect Indian summer conditions. Thomas Ashe started off strong with two excellent points, but Ballyboden replied with 4 points in a row from Liam O’ Flaherty, Luke O’Donoghue, Ruadhán Fanning and Mark McGee.
As the game progressed Ballyboden started to rapidly cut through the defence and succeeded in scoring three goals. A great pass from Kevin Cronin led to Philip McCormack’s first goal and a beautifully weighted pass from Cathal O’Dea led to Philip’s second goal. The third goal was scored by Liam O’Flaherty. The score at half time was 3-09 to 0-6.
Thomas Ashe came out stronger in the second half but Ballyboden weathered the storm. As usual Josh Kane made some mighty saves in goal, while Oisín Carolan provided solid cover as full back. Up front Ruairí Kirwan was consistent with his accurate scoring. Kevin Lynch came on from the bench and scored a powerful goal and two points from play.
Men of the match were Mark McGee for his fielding and athleticism, Kevin Cronin for his leadership and battling in defence, Josh Kane for his strong kick outs and sturdy goalkeeping and Liam Mullen for his tenacious tackling and alertness.
Overall an excellent team display, but championship awaits.
