The first outing for this team of mostly first year minors was to Silverpark on a sunny Sunday morning against Kilmacud Crokes. With their C team given a Bye, they had a conspicuously large and strong panel that we had difficulty containing. From the off our midfield of Harry Duff and Oisin Keating McDermot gave as good as they got, ably assisted by a fully committed and able half forward line Kevin O donoghue, Thomas Nolan and Dara Campbell. Particularly of note was fantastic fielding and mark taking by Thomas Nolan. A fine footballing performance by Dara Campbell was prematurely (and overly harshly) ended by the referee in the last quarter.
Our back line were under siege from the constant onslaught from Kilmacud, with runners coming from every angle. Tom Dunne, Senan Delargy (who started at wing back) Aidan Eyles and Luke Devlin all covered the ground right up to the final whistle. With little ball getting into the full forward line, scores were at a premium.A well taken goal from Ryan Ramsden was one of few positives on the score board, along with points from Thomas Nolan, Harry Duff, Oisin keating mcdermot and Dara Campbell. The last line of defence stood up with Ben O’Mahoney moving to his favoured full back position to allow David O’Connor more freedom to move. A heroic performance from Ben O’Riordan in goal, putting his body on the line time after time, kept the final goal tally to half what it might have been.
Well done lads for keeping the heads up until the final whistle.
Final Score Kilmacud 5-15 Ballyboden 1-5
