Senior football championship v Ballymun Kickhams in Parnell Park on 20 August 2022

Ballyboden St Endas 4 – 10

Ballymun Kickhams 2 – 11

There was a goal fest in the second half of this game, but the first half was a cagier affair. Ballymun had the wind and made good use of it early on with two points in the first two minutes. Things could have been worse after six minutes were it not for a good block by Darren O’Reilly as the ball seemed to be heading for the corner of the net. Boden’s first score came in the 8th minute when Warren Egan converted a free after Ryan Basquel was fouled. Colm Basquel levelled the scores from play three minutes later. Ballymun went ahead again but Warren levelled when he converted a mark taken from a great pass by James Holland. Ballymun and Ross McGarry exchanged points, but Ballymun went two points ahead (1 free) with 20 minutes gone. James Holland provided a good pass for Colm Basquel to bring the deficit back to one point. Ross McGarry and Ballymun exchanged points to leave the halftime score at 0 – 6 to 0 – 7.

Ballymun scored the first two points of the second half but then a pin-point pass from Ross McGarry found Colm Basquel on the edge of the square and he diverted the ball to the net with his fist to bring the sides level. This position didn’t last long as a couple of minutes later a penalty was awarded to Ballymun when Darragh Gogan was judged to have foot-blocked a Ballymun shot at goal. Dean Rock finished to the net to put a goal between the sides again. They then added a point. The next 10 minutes changed the course of the game. First, Ryan Baynes broke forward with the ball and found Ryan Basquel on the edge of the square and he finished to the net. Five minutes later, a Ryan Baynes shot for a goal was saved with the ball breaking to Warren Egan and he finished to the net to put Boden ahead for the first time in the match. Another good break forward was led by Michael Darragh Macauley. He passed to Warren Egan who in turn passed to James Holland who palmed the ball to the net. Colm Basquel converted a mark to put six points between the sides. Ballymun put severe pressure on the Boden goal area as the end of normal time approached and Darragh Gogan and his fellow defenders were called on a few times to keep the ball out of the net. Ballymun’s efforts paid off when they finished to the net from a tight angle to put three points between the sides again. In added time, Ryan O’Dwyer, Ryan Baynes (fist), and Ross McGarry scored valuable points to give the Boden supporters some relief. Ballymun scored the last point of the game before the referee blew the final whistle in the sixth minute of added time.

Next up will be Clontarf in the last round robin match which will take place the weekend after next.
