Dublin champions Kilmacud Crokes visited PUM last Wednesday for a top of the tables clash. Both teams were unbeaten in the Div.1 cup competition. The Stillorgan side had decisively beaten us earlier in the season in the league, so it was important for Boden to put in a performance that would go some way to lessen that defeat.
Both sides were missing starting players, however the game didn’t fail to provide a hugely entertaining game for attendees.
There was never more than a point or two between the sides at any stage. The visitors did score 2 quick goals midway through the first half with Julie Vaughan replying for Boden 5 mins before the break. Both Julie and Rebecca McDonnell caused the Crokes defense no end of trouble with their ‘pacey’ runs and accurate shooting. Midfielder Hannah Murphy also had an impressive performance, slotting over 2 points in the process.Teams were level at the break : Boden 1.10 Kilmacud 2.7
The decisive score in the second half came from the boot of Caoimhe O’Sullivan who finished off an excellent team move by slotting home a goal from close range. Boden moved 3 points clear late on but Kilmacud registered the last 2 scores with defenders Hannah Leddy, Grace Walsh and sub Aoife O’Brien holding firm to end the game a point clear. This was Kilmacud’s first defeat in all competitions this season.
Final score; Ballyboden St Endas 2.13
Kilmacud Crokes 2.12.
