St Finbarrs 1-7 Ballyboden St Endas B 7-18
The first Camogie silverware of the year has arrived, and it arrived in style!. This was another top class performance from a group of girls who have shown terrific consistancy throughout the year. After a slow start with defeat away to neighbours Faughs, the girls had many high scoring wins along the way to the League title.
This latest display included many long range scores from a variety of players. A quick start with an early goal Dianaimh Greene was ideal. Aisling O’ Leary was deadly both from open play and from placed balls. Despite being a few players down, all girls from 1 to 15 showed what ability they have.
At half-time we led by 3-10 to 1-2, with the game over as a contest. The girls kept their performance level high throughout the second half. At the end of the match, when news came through of a draw between our rivals Faughs & Thomas Davis, it took a few moments before it sank in that we had indeed won the League!
This year the Senior B panel has a terrific blend of youth and experience, with Grainne Corcoran & Roisin Walsh leading from the back.
Danielle’s injury curtailed to being the goalkeeper, but she has proved solid throughout. Jane Edwards at full-back gets better each week, supported well by defenders Aoife, Aisling, & Rebeka. The middle third of Grace, Karen, Orla, Aoife Tobin & Laura have dominated most games. Up front is where the greatest improvement has been, the forward line scoring at will on many occasions. The O’ Leary sisters Aisling & Aoife, ably assisted by Zenouska, Dianaimh, Roisin Ryan & Sharon have proved a great unit. Sarah Dowling also made a timely return to the fold…she sniffed a medal!
The League win is a great reward for both players & mentors. Many congratulations all of the players, and mentors Rob Lambert, Dolores Greene, Trish Cantwell, Gerry Keane & Mick Glynn. We look forward to the beginning of the Championship next week!!
