Ballyboden 0:11 Foxrock Cabinteely 2-11
Wednesday 9th June at 7.30pm, Kilboggett Park

In what seemed like an eternity since the girls last had an official match, Ballyboden B ladies finally got back to match action on a warm evening in Kilboggett Park, their first game of the season versus Foxrock. As would be expected, with no competitive or even challenge matches played due to Covid restrictions, it took both sides time to acclimatise to match pace again with narrow wides from both sides.
Fortuitous for Foxcab they took the lead when a 21 metre free kick dipped under the crossbar into the back of the net. A point from play from Elizabeth followed by an Áine free reduced the gap. Further points from the very lively Foxcab forward had Ballyboden behind by 4 points at the water break. A quick team debrief and the performance changed and points from Cathy, Áine, Chloe and Laura levelled it nicely at half time 1-04 to 0-7.
A couple of changes were made to the team at half time and the reintroduction of Eimear following a blow to the face earlier in the first half ensured that the second half started well with a point from Orlaith inside the first minute. Unfortunately a sucker punch resulted in a second goal for the home-side as the ball rocketed into the top corner of the net. Following some good build up play into full forward, Orlaith surged toward goal resulting in Foxcab defenders pulling her down with Orlaith awarded a penalty. A chance to reduce the arrears up saw Orlaith’s powerful shot rocket off the post. The alert Orlaith reacted to win the ball and another thumping shot was sent to the net only for keeper to save with her face and put out for 45. Further points from Áine actuary from the dead ball free taking and Megan point from some fine interception play from outstanding Cliondha on the night. After the final whistle was blown, a warm down and quick debrief, the team headed to Seapoint for a recovery swim.
Next up is Cuala at home next Wednesday.
Just a brief note to highlight One club Kelly, Anna, Sinead and Shona turned out for D team on the night.
