Go-Ahead Ladies Football Adult League Division 3

Ballyboden St Endas B v Ballyboughal, Wednesday 25th May 2022, Pairc Uí Mhúrchú

The Ballyboden Ladies B team followed up on recent wins in the League with a fine victory over north county Dublin rivals, Ballyboughal in Pairc Uí Mhúrchú on Wednesday evening (25th May) to top the table in Division 3 League. Playing conditions were excellent and it was great to be playing on PUM in front of our home supporters. Ballyboden got off to a flying start with early goals from Hannah and Sarah. The 2 ladies just mentioned and the other forwards combined very well in the first half to score some excellent points. In a high scoring team performance, the half time score was 2 10 to 0 07

The second half remained competitive with fine scores by both teams but the hard work done in the first half stood to Boden and try as they might Ballyboughal could not reduce the halftime deficit. Minor players Jenny, Ailbhe, Megan and Shauna entered the fray in the second and made excellent contributions with Megan and Shauna getting on the scoreboard. Ballyboden ran out deserving winners on a full-time score of  2:18 to 1:10

This was a fine team performance from Ally in goal whose kick outs continued to find a Boden player, our full back line of Rachel, Rachel and Aoife, who defended so well as a unit   shutting down so many scoring opportunities, our half back line of Aishling, Cliodhna and Beth who are getting better with every game. Out midfield of Alanna and Ella had excellent games, helping out our defence and setting up many attacking moves. The forwards of Sarah, Áine, Chloe, Kate, Hannah and Rebecca contributed some excellent scores and are developing a good understanding of each other’s play.

The team has performed brilliantly in recent weeks and now find themselves in the unexpected position of heading Division 3 as the league takes a break for cup games for the summer

A word for referee John Doherty who let the game flow and contributed to a fine game of football. Thanks again to Miriam Christie for looking after the first aid as well as providing excellent action photographs. For more photos, see here.  Also thanks to the support from Kieran and the Minor A mentors.

Go-Ahead Ladies Football Adult League Division 3

St Endas B v Clontarf B, Wednesday 18th May 2022, St Annes No. 34

Ballyboden Ladies B team had a fantastic win over league leaders Clontarf in a  Division 3 League game in St Annes Park last Wednesday evening (May 18th). Playing conditions were very difficult for both teams in the first-half as they had to contend with some very heavy rain showers. However, to the credit of both teams, they made light of the conditions and some excellent points were scored in the first half. Boden had more scoring chances but kicked a number of wides and went to the break a point behind 0:05 to 0:06

Thankfully the rain cleared and playing conditions in the second half improved allowing Ballyboden to put together some terrific passing movements. Unfortunately, Boden conceded an early goal to go 5 points down. However, things changed dramatically when wing-back Aisling McElvanney won possession and attempted to go on one of her trademark attacking runs, when she was upended by a high tackle by her opposite number. The referee was not impressed and issued a yellow card bringing Clontarf down to 14 players. Boden immediately went on the attack and some brilliant combination play starting in the full backline resulted in 2 goals from Hannah. Boden continued to press forward and scored another fine goal from Rebecca. Allana who had an excellent game throughout contributed 3 points in the second half. The game ended with a final score of 3:09 to 0:09

The second half performance was one of the best displays I have seen from a Boden Ladies football team in years and it was a pleasure to be associated with it.
