Massive congratulations to the players, management and supporters on a fantastic win today to claim our 4th Senior Football Championship made all the more special in this our 50th year. The Boden support once again became the ’16th man’ and came out in their droves to cheer their team on, rightly referenced by Senior Manager Anthony Rainbow back in the clubhouse. We go again this Sunday in the Leinster QF so keep the flags handy folks!

Senior football championship final v Thomas Davis, Parnell Park on 3 November 2019

Ballyboden St Endas 0 – 15

Thomas Davis 0 – 9

County Champions. Sounds good doesn’t it!

Although the winning margin was six points, it was not possible to relax until the final whistle actually sounded as a very determined Thomas Davis side never gave up. The game started slowly with both sides probing for scoring opportunities. Boden made the breakthrough after five minutes with a pointed free from Collie Basquel. This was followed a few minutes later with a similar score by brother Ryan. Darragh Gogan was called on to make a good save before Declan O’Mahony knocked over a point from distance. A great move by Warren Egan saw him bearing down on goal with one thing in mind but his shot came back off the crossbar. Ryan Basquel pointed another free to keep the scoreboard ticking over. 18 minutes had passed before Thomas Davis found the range from a free and added another a few minutes later. Ryan Basquel again converted a free before Ross McGarry and Ryan again scored from play to leave the half time score at 0 – 7 to 0 – 2.

Thomas Davis were quickly out of the blocks with two early points (1 free). Ross McGarry scored two points from play each side of another point from Thomas Davis. Collie Basquel then converted another free but Thomas Davis cancelled out that score with a converted free. With 15 minutes of the second half gone, there was still only four points between the sides. Ryan Basquel (2) and Ross McGarry stretched the margin to 7 points with points from play. Thomas Davis got it back to six points with a pointed free. Collie Basquel stretched it to 7 again but another pointed free by Thomas Davis brought it back to six again. As we entered added time Alan Flood scored his sides final point from play, but he did not have the last word as Thomas Davis got a late point to leave six points between the sides. The final whistle sounded and was greeted with relief by the Boden players and supporters. The inevitable pitch invasion followed immediately, and the celebrations started.

A special thanks to all the supporters who made their voices heard and helped the team throughout the championship campaign. Also, thanks to Sinead Ryan, Neil Buckingham and Cliona Mellett for their work in promoting and publicising the activities of the team. Thanks also to John Kirwan and Miriam Doyle for their excellent photos and all those who took snaps and videos in the lead up to the final. Thanks to Jack Nolan and the football committee for their support and a special thanks to our generous sponsors for their support and finally, thanks to Charlie Chawke for the hospitality shown to the players and management when they visited The Old Orchard on Monday.

It is now on to Drogheda on Sunday next for the first round of the Leinster Championship and all support would be welcomed.
