Senior football league v St Olafs at Páirc Uí Mhurchú on 3 May 2023

Ballyboden St Endas 0 – 9

St Olafs 0 – 7

Report by Paddy Walsh

This was a dour game that took 7 minutes to see the first score, a point by Warren Egan from distance. Things might have been different had Olafs converted a good chance after two minutes when their shot hit the post when a goal looked odds on. Olafs were level after 8 minutes from a free but Daire Sweeney’s point after 15 minutes and Olaf’s reply left the score at two points each after 16 minutes. The next score took another 9 minutes when Ofals took the lead but a fisted point by Michael Darragh Macauley drew the sides level. Olafs went in at half time one point ahead after they pointed a free just before half time.

The second half was a little more entertaining, especially for the home side, even though Olafs were first to score. Daire Sweeny and Warren Egan (2) had Boden ahead mid-way through the half, but Olafs equalised. Olafs had the ball in the Boden net after a fisted effort for a point ended up going under the bar and was therefore disallowed. Daire and Warren again put the home side ahead, both from play. Olafs, from a free, brought it back to a point as full time approached but Daire Sweeney eased the nerves of the Boden supporters with a long-range point as the game entered added time.

This was the last game for Alan Flood before his emigration (temporary hopefully) to Australia early the following morning. We hope to see Alan back in the Boden colours in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, we wish him the best.
