Senior football league v St Judes, 22 August 2018, Páirc Úí Mhurchú

This meeting of neighbours was never going to be easy with St Judes needing a win to help them keep their hopes of a top four finish alive. Judes started the liveliest with two points within the first 3 minutes. These were cancelled out by good scored from Conal Keaney and Alan Flood. Judes went ahead again with a point from play which Keaney again cancelled out. James Holland then got in on the act and put the home side ahead with a well taken point. Judes levelled matters before Ryan Basquel got his name on the score sheet. Judes then took control for the next 10 minutes or so with three points (one free) in quick succession and then the killer score, a goal, following a mistake in the home defence, to put them five points ahead as half time approached. Ryan Basquel brought it down to four before the half time whistle.

The first 10 minutes of the second half saw Judes score three points with Basquel again responding with two points from play to leave five points between the sides. There then followed a 10-minute spell where the home side were superior, scoring three points from frees (Basquel 2, Barra McGarry 1) and a converted penalty by Ryan Basquel to put Boden one point ahead as the end of normal time approached. As there had been a number of stoppages during the half, the referee indicated 10 minutes additional time. The visitors used his to maximum effect scoring five points to the home side’s one (Basquel free) to leave Judes with a three-point win and their top four chances still alive.
