Senior football league v Lucan Sarsfields, 12th Lock, 12 June 2021
Ballyboden St Endas 0 – 12
Lucan Sarsfields 0 – 12
We’d been waiting for this day for nearly 9 months and the weather-man obliged with a warm summer’s day for this, our first competitive match since last year’s county final. It took Boden some time to settle and in the first three minutes Lucan had two points (1 free) on the board. Ross McGarry got one back in the 4th minute. Lucan added two more by the 7th minute. Ross again pointed for the visitors but once more Lucan added two more (1×45, 1 free). Ciarán O’Reilly pointed for Boden and then Lucan scored their 7th and last point of the half on 16 minutes leaving them leading by seven points to three mid-way through the first half. Ross McGarry again came to the rescue with two points (1 free) in the 20th and 21st minutes, followed in quick succession by a point from Declan O’Mahony. Darren O’Reilly brought the sides level with 3 minutes remaining in the half to leave the score 0 – 7 each.
The 2nd half started slowly until Ross McGarry broke the deadlock with a pointed free after five minutes, but Lucan quickly replied from play. This would turn out to be their last score until added time. Warren Egan forced the Lucan goalie to make a good save. Conal Keaney scored a long-range point from play on 8 minutes followed 7 minutes later by a Simon Lambert effort. Barra McGarry, who had come on as a sub, was next on the score board followed again by Conal Keaney with our last score as full time approached, and what looked like a comfortable win. However, Lucan eventually decided to pile on the pressure as the visitors tried to run down the clock. The home side scored four points in added time to draw level, to the delight of the home supporters. During this period, Boden had a number of chances to make the game safe but seemed to want to walk the ball into the net when points might have been more easily taken. The Boden cause was not helped when Darren O’Reilly received a 2nd yellow card as normal time was almost up.
