On the back of a good win against Na Fianna, the Senior Camogie team were eager to continue in the same vane at PUM on Sunday 10th September. However, it would be no mean feat, seeing as the next opponent was Lucan Sarsfields, who had drawn with Dublin Champions, St. Vincents in their opening game. Boden got off the mark first with a point from Julie Vaughan. Lucan responded quickly, but it was Boden who had a flurry of points to go 4 points to 1, in the opening 15 minutes. The first half concluded with the sides trading several points and a notable long range point from centre back, Martha O’Donoghue. Half time score 0-08 to 0-05 to Boden.
There was no shortage of Camogie skills on display at halftime with U10 Camogie playing an exhibition match. No doubt we will see many of these players representing the club at senior level soon!
Boden were first off the mark again in the second half with scores from Doireann Mullany and Eimear O’Leary. Lucan responded once again. Three more Boden points; Lucan responded with two of their own. With only 5 points separating the sides with 10 minutes to go, Lucan upped the ante and a high-ball into the square ended up in the back of the net. Two more points for Lucan, and all of a sudden the sides were level. With a minute to go, Abbey Fitzgerald won a free out near the sideline on the 13-metre line. Katie McDonald stood up take the free, which would put Boden one point up, and slotted it between the uprights. One last attack for Lucan was swept up by Hannah Leddy in full back and the home team prevailed. Full time score 0-14 to 1-10 to Boden.
An opportunity to top the group now arises, when Boden take on County Champions, St. Vincents this weekend at home on PUM on September 24th.
Many thanks to John Kirwan for the match day photos.
