Ballyboden U13A 5-13 – 3-4 Lucan Sarsfields

After 2 wins in their opening 2 matches, our U13 girls went into their match against Lucan on Saturday with confidence although knowing the threat that Lucan would pose. With a squad of 21 and a full touchline of parents and mentors on a sunny day, it started off well as our girls registered the first score with a tidy point from Caoimhe.

However then it all went horribly wrong as a nice Lucan move ended up with the ball in the back of the Boden net. This was followed in quick succession by a 2nd and a 3rd goal to leave our girls with a mountain to climb after only 5 or 6 minutes.

The mentors, who were all still feeling a little tender after a late night at the Ladies Football fundraiser the previous night, were left shell shocked as they wondered where it had all gone wrong! Fortunately though, it wasn’t the mentors playing the match, it was the girls, and they didn’t panic, settled things down and started to mount a comeback, 1 point at a time.

Nice interplay throughout the forwards and great finishing kept the scoreboard ticking over. Lucan were still dangerous on the break and but for a great goal line clearance by Sarah, could have added a 4th goal. By the time the whistle blew to end the 1st half, our girls had turned an 8 point deficit into a 3 point lead.

The girls built on this lead in the 2nd half adding more good scores with neat interplay and keeping Lucan at bay with some mean defending. With the quality of replacements on the side line, they were able to maintain the high quality performance right to the end to make it 3 wins out of 3.
