It was great to see Cherryfield in full swing on a balmy February Saturday afternoon with matches in all corners as boys and girls teams returned to league action. Camogie juvenile leagues started off for all age groups at the weekend with the Under 16 team taking centre stage at 3pm against perennial local rivals Kilmacud Crokes.

The first half started off with both teams bursting into action. There were terrific skills on show from both teams with every ball contested fiercely. Ballyboden had the upper hand in these early exchanges with much of the play in the Kilmacud half but only 3 points to 1 to show for their efforts with points from Hannah and a point each for both Clodaghs. Crokes were always dangerous on the break and took the lead with a goal after 20 minutes. However, the Boden girls were resilient and bounced straight back with Clodagh Delaney netting from close range to give Boden the lead by 1-3 to 1-1 at half time.

The 2nd half started with Kilmacud coming out the stronger. It was still tight between the 2 teams but Crokes gradually pegged back the 2 points to tie the scores and looked to have gained the upper hand. However a feature of this performance was the resilience shown by the Boden girls as again they did not buckle under pressure but instead converted another goal with Shauna on target this time. Crokes responded with a point but this was cancelled out by a fine point from Holly. Crokes brought it back to one with another 2 points but then another super score from Aine brought the gap to 2. Kilmacud got one more point but the Boden defence held firm and they held on for a one point win.  Credit to both teams for the quality of the play throughout and also credit to all for the sporting manner in which the game was played out.

Final Score: Ballyboden U16 2-5 Kilmacud Crokes 1-7
