On our return from a recent league match in Howth a couple of mentors overheard from the back of the car Junior cert exams and all the study involved.
We chatted and came up with the idea of running a Thurs night Blitz in May in order to give the girls an outlet and a bit of fun so we kicked on and invited all 4 x U16 Ladies Teams to partake. The Div 1 Team decided to concentrate on Championship training so we proceeded with Div 2, 4 and 5 Teams approx 60 girls. The team names were chosen The Snapchatters, The Tweeters, The Moany Hs, The Up the Dubs, The Pink Ladies, The Emojis, The Facebookers, The Sam Maguire’s and the girls were graded. We also decided to get some parents involved as managers which went down very well indeed and away we went on Thursday 5th of May. We played 6 a side games and a total 24 match’s which led us to ¼ finals last Thursday evening in Sancta Maria.
4 hotly contested ¼ finals with The Snapchatters, Pink Ladies, Moany Hs and The Tweeters winning through to the Semi Finals which we played on Saturday afternoon in glorious sunshine in Pairc Ui Mhurchu.
The Pink Ladies and the Moany Hs contested a thrilling final with a sizeable crowd in attendance roaring on each team with The Pink Ladies just holding out to be crowned the winners. Presentation food and entertainment were provided by our sponsors for the day who wish to remain anonymous thanks for that really appreciated by all. A special word for Anne Mc Cormack who’s enthusiasm as a manager was second to none and brought a smile to everybody’s face. The U16 girls that participated are a credit to their parents for the way each and every one of them conducted themselves. Finally the 8 managers Eddie(The Zoo) O’Brien, Leonard (Competitive) Brennan, FR Aidan Brophy, Anne (Mayo for Sam) Mc Cormack, Stephen (Clipboard) Campbell, Linda (One Arm Bandit) Mc McCullagh, Colm (Ye Muppet) Bolger, Ian (I only have 4) Horan sincere thanks for all your help and Liam Duffy who stood in as back up manager also thanks. Nearly forgot the 3 x referees Aisling, Kate and Roisin thanks for doing a great job.
May we wish all the U16 Ladies the very best of luck in the Junior Cert.
