Player enthusiasm to play in the U21 camogie championship meant numbers were good, enough to enter two teams into this year’s competition.

First up were our Division 1 team, who hosted Lucan in PUM. The playing conditions were perfect and both teams treated the good turnout of onlookers to a great game of camogie. The game ebbed and flowed end to end with both teams converting well worked scores from play. Boden enjoyed a strong 2nd quarter and came into the half time break 4pts ahead but Lucan were quick out of the blocks from the start of the 2nd half and drew level by the end of the 3rd quarter. The final quarter saw Lucan go into the lead on 3 occasions but Boden pulled it back level each time, converting their final point in injury time to confirm the draw. Two good teams, a great battle and relative satisfaction with the draw.

The Division 3 team, hosted Kilmacud Crokes at the later time of 6pm on the all-weather in SM. The Boden girls proved too strong for their opponents and put up a great performance in the 1st half to lead by a comfortable margin at half time. Maybe sensing victory too soon, Boden took their foot off the pedal in the 2nd half, allowing Crokes claw back 2:01 without reply in the 3rd quarter, and waited until the final 10 minutes to register a flurry of scores and seal the victory.

All in all, a very satisfactory weekend and a good start to the U21 camogie championship.
